Does the media cheerleading ever end? How much of this did you hear? http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2009/11/unemployment-rate-increases-in-29.html It's over 15% in Michigan; and that is only the `soft' number.

My Politics
I've voted for the Libertarians the last 10 elections for President. I do not believe in the Republinuts or the Democraps, or, the big media that supports them.
Because of the above - my views, IMO, are the real independent; THE `Eagle' views, and not the `centrist' `independent' views of those that alternate between the Jackass and the Elephant.
Thanks for checking out my politics blog.

Will Media Cheerleading Of Economy Continue With `Depression' Level Unemployment?
As a regular listener to CNBC and user of their website - and - a regular user of the cable newschannels -- it's strange to consider the continuing language they use concerning the economy -- specifically, the term `green roots'. To the common man in America, that term implies `an improvement' or a sign of better things happening. This in an economy and government that is often borrowing nearly 100 billion a MONTH - just to keep the whole ball rolling at all.
Cheerleading the economy with a backdrop of Michigan's official unemployment rate now exceeding 15% -- the first state since West Virginia in the mid 1980's. Cheerleading the economy with a backdrop of 15 states with an unemployment exceeding 10% - and with 38 states showing increases in unemployment last month. Cheerleading the economy while knowing that certain counties in California have unemployment nearing 20% and one county, Imperial, OFFICIALLY at over 27% unemployed.
Cheerleading the economy while the `official' U-6 - government unemployment figure exceeds 16% - (this includes the those underemployed and those who have given up looking) and in Michigan the number is now over 22%. Cheerleading the stock market rally, while knowing the biggest rallies that ever happened before happened in the Great Depression. Cheerleading the economy while knowing that the `wealth destruction' in this downturn - The Great Recession - is unmatched by any recent `recession'; indeed, palling in comparison.
Finally, cheerleading the economy while knowing that much of the `stimulus money' - isn't spent - and what is appears to be wasted or inefficient in it's allocation. And, lastly - cheerleading the economy while knowing that the `stimulus money' `saved' state and even local government jobs - such as teachers and firemen - and knowing that they will be lost jobs within a year without MORE `stimulus'.

The Michael Jackson Ruse
Am I the only one somewhat offended by the amount of coverage given to Michael Jackson's death? I mean, while he did break down some barriers with the Thriller album, and, produced an Oh My God moment with the first moonwalk dance move - isn't this a little overdone?
That said, he did breakdown another thing too -- he showed that a black man's money will `buy' justice too in America - both in the molestation trial he won and the one that he settled for millions. Indeed, he proved black money will buy `justice' even before O.J. did. And, he proved that EVEN child molesters can be `forgiven' within the big media - if they are interesting enough and can provide ratings. Jackson also proved that a black man can be nearly half a billion in debt too.
And, what a slam dunk for the media - no longer having to apologize for not having any real contacts in Iran - and getting that nasty - no one wants to think about story (Iran election and violence) off the tube. No tough questions for President Obama or any representative. And, finally, another break from having to talk about bad unemployment numbers - those nasty facts that keep putting toxins on the green shoots - and North Korea.
But, all this media talk and remorse for a fading star record maker, probable child molester, in debt a half billion dollars, who died of a probable misuse of hard drugs - is a little much for me. Heck, would an Israeli bombing of an Iran nuke site even make the news at this time?
