Now, as a Real Heavy Politics reader - you have already seen RHP use that word to describe the situation in various income levels http://realheavypolitics.blogspot.com/2010/06/is-great-recession-actually-depression.html - something the media will never do outloud. But, now, even the NYTimes is starting to allow the viewpoint to make it to print - lord help us now - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/28/opinion/28krugman.html

My Politics
I've voted for the Libertarians the last 10 elections for President. I do not believe in the Republinuts or the Democraps, or, the big media that supports them.
Because of the above - my views, IMO, are the real independent; THE `Eagle' views, and not the `centrist' `independent' views of those that alternate between the Jackass and the Elephant.
Thanks for checking out my politics blog.

The Absurdity Of Young Police Arresting Old Long Time Pot Smokers
A brazen senior citizen evidently has had enough of being in the closet and decided to grow her pot openly for all to see outdoors - including the police. Seems the police aren't into such a disregard by citizens for the concerns of the politicians. (And, police budgets are set by those same politicians.) ACLU Chief 'Disgusted' With Obama
To me, the funny part - is that the ALCU - STILL doesn't `get it' that we don't have a two party system -- and that BOTH parties are BEYOND worthless to the average folk. This quote from the link:"It’s 18 months and, if not now, when? ... Guantanamo is still not closed. Military commissions are still a mess. The administration still uses state secrets to shield themselves from litigation. There's no prosecution for criminal acts of the Bush administration. Surveillance powers put in place under the Patriot Act have been renewed. If there has been change in the civil liberties context, I frankly don't see it." - http://www.politico.com/blogs/joshgerstein/0610/ACLU_chief_disgusted_with_Obama.html?showall

DARE program failed because it's ineffective - From the link:
I do not question the sincerity or intent of people involved in the DARE program. ("School resource officers felled by state budget ax," June 14.) Nor do I question their desire to prevent drug and alcohol abuse among youth. Nonetheless, there is a significant problem with DARE.
Evidence and research indicate, in the words of one study, that DARE "has a limited to nonexistent effect" on drug use. The General Accounting Office, U.S. surgeon general, National Institute of Justice, Department of Education and American Psychological Association conclude that DARE is ineffective.
A 2009 study of a new DARE curriculum, "Take charge of Your Life," involving 20,000 seventh-graders, concluded: "Far from being a success, the program is actually counterproductive." That from University of Akron researchers who designed the program.
Even on DARE's website, so-called research in support of DARE's effectiveness is primarily testimonials from DARE personnel and police and anecdotal evidence, not objective research. One "study" stated DARE is a success because it improved the image of police. That's what DARE is for? DARE money improves the police image?
A more accurate headline for the article, had The Day researched DARE's "success," would have been "School resource officers and DARE programs felled by facts." -- A success because it `improves the police image?' -- you have got to be F-ing kidding me! http://www.theday.com/article/20100617/OP02/306179447

Are Cameras the New Guns?
Just when you thought the worthless courts and the worthless politicians that make the laws for them couldn't get any worse - it get worse. From this article:In response to a flood of Facebook and YouTube videos that depict police abuse, a new trend in law enforcement is gaining popularity. In at least three states (Illinois, Massachusetts, and Maryland), it is now illegal to record an on-duty police officer even if the encounter involves you and may be necessary to your defense, and even if the recording is on a public street where no expectation of privacy exists - http://www.thefreemanonline.org/headline/are-cameras-the-new-guns/# Expecting justice - RHP.

Is The Great Recession Actually A Depression?
Click tables for large view!
U.S. Unemployment Varies Significantly Based on Income Levels
The one word our worthless mouthpiece for the government media doesn't use to describe the current `new normal'; ie: `the jobless recovery' - is DEPRESSION. But, what do you call unemployment and underemployment rates of 28-50% for certain segments of our society? Is there a reason you find this data on a blog in the far corner of the blogosphere - and - not on your hometown front page; or, as the lead story in your worthless local TV news?
Could it be that the story of `haves' and `have-nots' doesn't make a good lead in to the commercial break?
Here's some additional findings of this study:
The total number of unemployed and underemployed has doubled in the last two years
Four year collage graduates, many managers, government employees, professionals are well protected from job losses
Blue-collar workers particularly in the construction sector, teenagers and black men have higher unemployment rates
From the chart above, we can infer that workers in the top two deciles have unemployment rates of just 4.0% and 3.2%
Workers in the lowest decile - those earning $12,499 or less - faced a Great Depression era unemployment rate of about 31% and the second lowest declie had an unemployment rate of about 20%
Both unemployment and underemployment rates increase dramatically from high income to low income levels
The study above clearly shows that lower-income Americans are affected greatly by the current recession while people at the top of the pyramid have almost negligible unemployment rates.

Huge Incentive To Walk Away
Please tell me that I didn't hear on the MSM that President Obama praised yesterday's anemic jobs report? Please tell me that. (While the market was simultaneously down 300+ with the actual message of the numbers -). Indeed, the disconnect widens between the messengers (MSM) and the `receivers' (the common man) - to new levels that were once thought to be impossible. The disgust for politicians grows.

The True Story Of The Day The D.A.R.E. Officer Came To School
As you know, Real Heavy Politics also serves as a resource for `Rants' - such as this one found recently on the internet at Reddit.com:
It must have been in 1987 or so. I was in 2nd grade. the D.A.R.E. officer was paying our class an educational visit. The officer told us of all the evils of drugs, especially marijuana. Weed seemed to be the main focus of the the officer's attention. He was using an overhead projector when he showed us various types of paraphernalia. "If you see a pipe like this, or a clear baggy with this green plant in it, it's marijuana," the officer told us. "If you've seen this before, you should let me know right away so I can make sure no one gets in any trouble," we were told.
Then came the next slide, a photo of a marijuana plant. The officer explained to the classroom full of seven year olds, that this was a pesky weed. In fact, usually it just grows wild, with most people never realizing that this highly illegal plant is growing on their property. He asked us if any of us recognized the plant. One boy did, Daniel. When pressed, though, Danny seemed to regret piping up. The cop told him "If you have one of these plants, I need to know so that we can get it out of there before anyone gets in trouble. If there's one in your yard, and you tell us, we'll just remove it and no one will be in any trouble, but if we find it on our own, everyone goes to jail."
That's when Danny told the officer about the plants like that in his back yard.
That was the last time I ever saw Daniel. A few days later I overheard my parents discussing how his parents had been arrested for growing pot.
Now I am 30. I have a son about to turn 10. We have had the "D.A.R.E. talk." Basically, this is the talk explaining to him that what Daddy does at home is Daddy's business, never tell anyone. Now, usually the cops shoot for the 7-8 year old kids so they can get the info before the parents have had time to properly educate their kids about police deception.
Teach your kids that the D.A.R.E. officer is not their friend, and that he will lie to you. Tell them this story, like I did. "Don't be a Daniel," I told my son.
Only wimps don't tell their kids the truth about pot and the real purpose of the D.A.R.E. program. http://www.reddit.com/r/trees/comments/c9nfr/the_trues_story_of_the_day_the_dare_officer_came/
