As you can see from my sidebar statement about `My Politics' - you can see I'm not a fan of the MSM (mainstream media) - indeed - I find them almost revolting like most folks - but - also - fascinating to watch. As we all know, the choice of what to put on the air as `news' is largely an effort to reach the most dumbed down consumers with disposable income as possible. The media's first focus - do not upset advertisers - which for most local TV stations includes all the politicians - as political ads are literally indispensable to the final bottom line (the media also doesn't want to upset the politicians due to the politicians link to actual news).
The next thing the MSM doesn't want to do is - offend. They don't want to offend those who think they are Republicans (Republinuts) or those who think that they support the Democrats (Democraps) -- and -- not only that -- the media has a vested interest that those `pesky independents' are only always portrayed as trying to decide which of the two parties are better. And, NOT that they have any dissatisfaction with the two party system. By doing so, it allows the media to ignore third parties - since - after all - folks could support them if they wanted and the results show that they never do. Anyways, the MSM continues, aren't those that say they are independents AND non-voters, really NOT interested in politics anyway?
Can't beat that logic - right?
So, along comes the new Rasmussen poll - and low and behold - 57% would be willing to replace the ENTIRE congress http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/august_2009/57_would_like_to_replace_entire_congress and only 25% would keep the entire bunch. Oh, and it's 70% would dump them all among `non party affiliated voters' -- 70 F-ing percent.
Now, this was a real poll - not a telephone or internet `call in'. These are real numbers with plus or negatives attached to the answers. And, therefore, would be real news --- in a country that had a political structure that encouraged `other political parties' -- instead of ignoring them. Indeed, even the very limited few `independents' to ever rock the established parties - such as Perot and John Anderson --- it's as if they never existed once their 15 minutes of fame was up. The same could be said of Ron Paul and the Libertarians - even - Ralph Nader.
Indeed, why is it that these folks - for decades - haven't been asked their opinion to put along side of the opinion of the `r-nuts' or `d-craps'? HUH, WHY?
Well, it's because we have a press that is a wimp - like the cowardly lion of the wizard of oz. A big loud roar and nothing else (actually, it doesn't even roar anymore) - that the media runs scared on politics is so obvious that no one even talks about it. (Look at all the recent findings about Pot inhibiting certain cancers being buried.)
So, instead, the poll findings less than a week later -- are forgotten - and the media two party system cheerleading continues unabated. Well, rah, rah - until the voting curtain is pulled open again - perhaps someday - the media will be more like Strawman and get a brain.

My Politics
I've voted for the Libertarians the last 10 elections for President. I do not believe in the Republinuts or the Democraps, or, the big media that supports them.
Because of the above - my views, IMO, are the real independent; THE `Eagle' views, and not the `centrist' `independent' views of those that alternate between the Jackass and the Elephant.
Thanks for checking out my politics blog.
